The London side took a 4-1 lead over the Red Devils at home, and survived a nervy finish to secure all three points, despite two late goals from Manchester United.
How it happened
Ruben Amorim’s heavily rotated United side took the lead through Mason Mount’s first goal of the season, set up by Alejandro Garnacho.
But Brentford took control before the break, with Luke Shaw’s own goal and Kevin Schade’s header turning the tide. Schade struck again in the second half, and Yoane Wissa added a fourth, seemingly sealing the win with 15 minutes remaining.
However, United launched a late fightback. Garnacho fired in a stunning curler to reduce the deficit, and Amad Diallo’s stoppage-time strike squeezed through Mark Flekken to make it 4-3, setting up a nervy finale.
Despite the pressure, Brentford held on for the win, moving up to ninth in the table, just one point behind eighth-placed Bournemouth.
The loss leaves United clinging to their Europa League campaign as their only realistic shot at salvaging the season. They lead Athletic Bilbao 3-0 on aggregate going into the second leg of the semi-final.
