Kitara and Mbarara City are a win away from gaining promotion from the StarTimes FUFA Big League to the Uganda Premier League.
Sam Ssimbwa could not hide his excitement after witnessing his Kitara side brush aside Soroti City 5-1 to edge closer to the StarTimes FUFA Big League title on Thursday in Hoima.
Paul Mucureezi put a man-of-the-match award with a brace as George Senkaaba, Edison Agondeze and Paddy Muhumuza produced a stunning second-half performance that took Kitara to 55 points and a win away from promotion.
“We played well better than what we did previously and that’s why the goals came in plenty,” Ssimbwa expressed his delight.

The striker took his goals tally to 19, four behind Denis Omedi, as he became the third player in the history of the FUFA Big League to score 19 goals.
Jamie Kisitu and Seiri Arigumaho scored the other two goals.
Neck-to-neck
Police as well joined the five-goals party with a 5-1 win over
Denis Kalanzi opened the scores with the fastest goal of the season inside 60 seconds as Emmanuel Mugume grabbed a double before Herman Wasswa and second-half substitute Jackson Semugabi completed the rout.
Police’s win received a huge boost from Lugazi who stunned NEC 2-1 at Bugolobi.
The two sides will now chase each other neck-to-neck after the Cops reduced the gap to win with 50 points.
Survivors
Lugazi’s win took them to fifth place with 40 points, the same as Booma and Calvary who played out to a goalless draw in Masindi.
Ndejje University was held to a 1-all draw by Kaaro Karungi as they joined Kyetume to confirm their place for next season.
Relegation dogfight
Adjumani Town Council’s loss at Kakyeka confirmed their relegation to the regional league as they joined Northern Gateway.
In Mbale, Kataka beat Jinja North United 2-0 as both sides, with 33 and 35 points, continue their fight to keep afloat.
Luweero United and Soroti City will have to fight harder and pray neither Kataka nor Jinja North wins their next two games to have any hopes of survival.
The league has remained with only two match days to go.
