SC Villa have moved on from their brutal elimination in the Stanbic Uganda Cup. They are now focused on reenergizing for the remainder of the season in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
The nine-time winners of the Uganda Cup were defeated 1-0 by the defending champions BUL FC courtesy of Ronald Otti's towering header at FUFA Technical Center, Njeru, on Friday but were denied a legitimate late equalizer.
Assistant referee Khalid Muyaga who canceled Charles Bbaale's goal has since been suspended by FUFA for poor refereeing.
"We were so much disappointed with what happened at Njeru because the players fought hard, and we did not deserve to go out of the Cup the way we did," Villa head coach Jackson Magera said in an interview with Pulse Sports.
It was the second consecutive time that the Joogos were being eliminated by the Oil Manufacturers from the Uganda Cup, having also ejected them in last year's quarterfinals en route to winning it.
"That result can no longer change, and we have to move forward to the SUPL and try to improve our performance."
"The task is now to lift the spirits of the players who are still devasted, but we shall get there because there is still plenty to play for in the league where we have so far performed well."
Magera noted: "I know we did not start well in the league for the second round, but now the focus is on one competition that did not come the right way but could be helpful to us to try and fight for a good position."
Villa drew 1-1 with Gaffafi FC when the league returned from the break last week and will host Onduparaka FC next on February 24.
After 15 league games, the SUPL record champions are positioned fifth on the 15-team SUPL log with 25 points.
