The Webb Ellis Cup's arrival in Uganda has ignited national excitement ahead of the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup, as the Rugby Cranes aim to qualify for their first-ever Rugby World Cup in 2027.

Rugby fever is gripping Uganda as the iconic Webb Ellis Cup, the sport’s ultimate prize, touches down in the country ahead of a pivotal chapter in the nation's rugby journey.

The arrival of the trophy, currently held by World Champions South Africa, comes just days before Uganda hosts the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup, the qualifying tournament for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.

For Uganda, it is a powerful symbol of possibility.

While the Rugby Cranes Sevens team has featured in two Rugby World Cups, the 15s side is still fighting for a historic first qualification.

Hosting and winning the Africa Cup on home turf would not only electrify the local sports scene but also secure Uganda a direct ticket to the global stage in 2027.

During the meeting, URU CEO Isaac Lutwama emphasized the value of regional partnerships, saying, “Working closely with the South African High Commission is crucial. South Africa are not only the reigning champions but also a huge inspiration."

"The Webb Ellis Cup’s presence here will motivate our players and fans as we strive for a place at the 2027 Rugby World Cup. We are grateful to Nile Special for their continued support," he added as quoted by Daily Monitor.

Uganda opens their campaign with a highly anticipated clash against East African rivals Kenya in the quarterfinals.
