Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has revealed why she wears colourful wigs to the track.

One of the most significant medal contenders at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest had a different wig each time she stepped on the track during the 2022 World Championships in Oregon.

"It's about expressing yourself and being comfortable with who you are - showing up for work in your best outfit and giving yourself the advantage to perform at your best," Fraser-Pryce told The Mirror.

The 2023 Laureus Award winner stated that she picked the trademark style from her mother while growing up, describing them as her 'superpower'.

"It's like my wigs are a superpower, and I can go into character, and it's almost like you feel invincible."

"It makes me feel good to be able to express myself in that way because, as athletes, we are all unique, and there are different ways we want to celebrate who we are," Fraser-Pryce added.

The 36-year-old will be up against America's Sha' Carri Richardson as America- Jamaica sprint rivalry continues to dominate short-distance races.

The mother-of-one has yet to have an active season before the world championships as she struggled with gaining full fitness.

The five-time-world champion opened her season in July with 10.82 seconds in Switzerland and followed it up with 10.83 seconds in Spain.
