Uganda's long-distance stars Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo will compete in both 5,000m and 10,000m at the World Athletics Championships, Budapest, Hungary, scheduled to be held from 19 to 27 August 2023 at the National Athletics Centre.

The distinguished duo will go for both distances in Budapest as Uganda confirmed the final team for the championships.

While Kiplimo had opted for only the 5000m earlier, the World Half Marathon World Record Holder will also be competing in the 10,000m alongside Joshua Cheptegei.

Middle-distance star Janat Chemusto was dropped from the final team after she tested positive for the banned Norandrosterone.

This unfortunate development has led to her violation of both Article 2.1 and Article 2.2 of the World Athletics Rules.

Chemusto had qualified to compete alongside teammate Winnie Nanyondo in the 1500m.

Uganda secured one gold and two bronze medals during the world championships in Oregon last year.

Cheptegei claimed gold in the 10,000m event, Kiplimo won bronze in the 5,000m, and Oscar Chelimo emerged victorious in the 5,000m.

Uganda's quest for glory will lie in the familiar faces; Cheptegei and Kiplimo.

At the same time, 2019 800m world champion Nakaayi has shown brilliance ahead of the world championships, while Peruth Chemutai secured a late qualification to the world championships.
