Uganda continues to grapple with a maternal health crisis, with an estimated 16 women losing their lives every single day due to pregnancy-related complications.

Now in its second edition, the run will gather more than 5,000 participants from across the corporate world under the theme “Run for Expectant Mothers.”

Organized by Corporate Games in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the initiative is focused on improving maternal healthcare by directing proceeds towards the purchase of mama kits, each valued at UGX 50,000. These essential kits are designed to ensure safer deliveries for mothers, particularly in underserved areas.

Speaking at the sponsorship announcement, Borah Ndanyungu, Head of Local Marketing & CSR at betPawa, emphasized the company’s motivation behind the contribution.

“At betPawa, we believe no woman should lose her life while giving life. Supporting this initiative allows us to stand with Ugandans in ensuring that expectant mothers receive the care and dignity they deserve. This is what community empowerment through sport is all about," he said.

The contribution of UGX 10 million represents a significant boost to the fundraising drive, underscoring how corporate partnerships can create ripple effects in the fight against maternal mortality. By tapping into the energy of sports and fitness, organizers aim to blend awareness creation with practical solutions.

The symbolic act of running reflects both solidarity and action—turning steps on the track into lifesaving resources for mothers.

The cheque was officially handed over by Allan Tumushabe, betPawa’s license partner, who highlighted the collective spirit driving the event.

“The Corporate Run shows that when we come together, whether on the track or off it, we can make a real difference.”

That sense of unity is what has propelled the Corporate Run to become more than just a calendar event. Last year’s inaugural edition laid a strong foundation, and this year is poised to surpass it in size, energy, and impact. Organizers predict record-breaking participation, which in turn means more mama kits distributed, more mothers supported, and ultimately, more lives saved.

Beyond fundraising, the Corporate Run doubles as a platform for corporate networking, fitness promotion, and community building.

It encourages companies not just to write cheques but to actively engage in the cause. In line with this philosophy, the contributing brand has also confirmed it will be fielding a team of runners, reinforcing the idea of leading by example.

Uganda’s maternal health crisis remains one of the most pressing issues facing the nation. By channeling collective effort into practical interventions, initiatives like the Corporate Run prove that solutions are within reach.

The upcoming edition is tipped to be the biggest yet, not just in terms of turnout but also in the momentum it builds for long-term change.
