The 2023 National Basketball League season served us a final rematch from last season as the JKL Lady Dolphins defeated the UCU Lady Canons, 67-51.

They had excellent stretches in the game where they stifled out each other defensively and had several scoring runs to back it up.

Hope Akello was hyped up for the season opener. A monster double-double of 15 points and 16 rebounds sent a message to the rest of the league.

The Lady Canons trio of Millicent Otieno, Shakirah Nanvubya and Bridget Aber carried the scoring load for the defending champions, with all players registering double-digit points.

A back-and-forth encounter provided a close game entering the third before the game turned on its head.

The JKL Lady Dolphins swung a 13-point difference in their favour late in the third due to consecutive possessions of scoring off the turnovers, with Flavia Oketcho at the heart of that stretch.

Lady Canons head coach Nicholas Natuhereza says the team will improve on the turnovers in the coming games.

"It is still a long season, and we will get better with the turnovers as it cost us today, but the team will get better, " Natuhereza said after the game.

There is alot of work left to get both teams to championship contenders based on the game.

There is a feeling among both camps that they will meet again this season with even higher stakes up for grabs.
