'I can't wait to race'- Joshua Cheptegei eyes redemption at Sunday's Tokyo Marathon
Joshua Cheptegei is set for his second full marathon at the Tokyo Marathon, aiming for redemption after his Valencia debut.
“Yeah, thank you very much. I'm very proud of them. I think this was one of the best games that we've played in this whole tournament,” Sheryl Botes said after the match.
“We worked a lot on our position within the formation that we wanted to play today. We studied Tanzania very well. We knew there was space behind that we could capitalise on.
“We knew that they were strong in the midfield. We knew that they were overloading the midfield. We knew that they were pushing with six to seven plays into the final third.”
Sheryl Botes said that they knew their defence had to be compact because Tanzania was a very quick transition team, which was evident in the goal they conceded.
Botes noted that for the second goal, Tanzania switched the ball quickly to the weaker side due to the players being ball-oriented, but expressed pride in the team's overall performance.
She described it as a good fight and believed they had good opportunities, particularly from set pieces and corners, where Tanzania appeared vulnerable.

“We wanted to win. But lapse of concentration in the first goal with a poor clearance, and then obviously late in the second half time managed to score a goal.”
Sheryl Botes: We Play a Different Brand of Football

She emphasised that they did not want the younger players to wait for future opportunities but instead wanted them to gain experience by competing now.
She also mentioned that playing against Kenya helped them understand the level they need to reach, and that facing Tanzania was a different challenge, as Tanzania plays a different style of football.

Ugandan Coach Handed Massive Role at MLS Club New York Red Bulls
A Ugandan coach is set to serve in a big role at MLS club New York Red Bulls following his promotion from the second-string side.
Looking ahead, Sherly Botes expressed a desire to do more for women’s football and praised both Kenya and Tanzania for their impressive performances.
“That's a bit difficult. We play a different brand of football, more position-based. They're not as physical as CECAFA teams,” she added.
“There's more idle dominance…We'll find Zambia plays a transitional game. They play direct, so they are they play different football. Kenya is very physical, the same with Tanzania, but Tanzania's got a combination of both. So, South Sudan and Burundi are also a bit more direct.”
Despite Uganda’s early exit from the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship, head coach Sheryl Botes remains optimistic.
She praised her team’s growth and the valuable experience gained, especially by the younger players.
