Fans were treated to an exhilarating clash between the record champions and the newly promoted side as the new season kicked off in style on Friday afternoon.

The match had all the makings of a thrilling contest, with both sets of fans turning out in impressive numbers to support their teams.

The stadium was buzzing with excitement from the opening whistle, and it didn't take long for the action to unfold.

In the 16th minute, Dennis Omedi of Kitara FC etched his name into the UPL history books by scoring the first goal of the season.

Omedi's clinical finish came off a knock down from Brian Aheebwa, to secure his first top-flight goal and open his account for Kitara.

It was a remarkable start for Omedi, who had been the top scorer in the FUFA Big League last season.

Both teams would return to the lockerroms level when Charles Lwanga found the back of the net in the 43rd minute.

Lwanga was on hand to poke in from close range after a dazzling solo run by Elvis Ngonde.

The game wasn't short of star power in the stands either. Former Uganda Cranes and SC Villa coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic made a special appearance, joining club president Omar Mandela in the stands.

The second half was a closely contested battle, with both teams displaying resilience and determination.

However, it was Kitara FC's Living Kabon who emerged as the hero. Kabon ensured that Kitara FC, making their return to the UPL, started the season with a significant victory.
