Referees under their body, the Uganda Football Referees Association (UFRA) vowed to officiate Express matches only when worthy action had been taken.

The Startimes Uganda Premier League Secretariat has postponed the match between Express FC and Wakiso Giants FC to allow for the smooth investigations of acts of hooliganism that involved alleged fans of the former.

Express had been slated to wrestle it out with the Purple Sharks at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on Saturday, but the game has been moved to a yet-to-be-confirmed date.

"The UPL Secretariat has been guided by FUFA to postpone M#56 Wakiso Giants FC vs Express FC that was scheduled to be played on Saturday 11th November 2023," a league statement said on Wednesday.

"This is to allow judicial bodies conclude matters relating to M#38 UPDF FC vs Express FC match."

Nearly a fortnight back, suspected Express fans attacked and beat assistant referee Fahad Sekayiba after their 1-1 draw with UPDF FC at Bombo Military Barracks.

The rowdy fans reportedly attacked the car which transported Sekayiba and the other match officials around Matugga, wounded the latter before he was sped away to hospital.

This is Express' second match to get postponed after the Secretariat decided against playing their derby against SC Villa, which was scheduled for last week.

"The two fixtures involving Express FC that have been postponed to date will be scheduled as soon as the said matters are concluded," SUPL summed.

Referees under their body, the Uganda Football Referees Association (UFRA) vowed to officiate Express matches only when worthy action had been taken.

Last week, FUFA President Moses Magogo confirmed that Express had been found innocent and that the individual perpetrators were to be dealt with in isolation by law.

The Red Eagles hoped they would be back in action this week but will have to wait a little longer.
