2023 Netball World Cup: Key She Cranes players hit with malaria
Margaret Baagala and Christine Namulumba have been confirmed ill of malaria, with the latter withdrawing from the World Cup team.
This is in addition to Norah Lunkuse, who got injured and is out for the remainder of the tournament.
"Majority of players came with malaria, Baagala inclusive and Kango (Namulumba)," confirmed She Cranes head coach Fred Mugerwa to Supersport, after their win against Wales on Wednesday.
"Because she (Baagala) is a key player, we couldn't rest her but we had to remove Kango and brought some else (Sarah Nakiyunga)."
Despite being ill, Baagala is still expected to feature against hosts South Africa later on Thursday in what will be She Cranes' last match of the competition.
"She is receiving treatment, in fact even right now she will take medication. We hope she will have recovered," Mugerwa hoped.
To make fifth, the She Cranes will hope they can upset the hosts who are targeting a semi-final spot.
