A continental powerhouse - Tunisia's coach is cautious about facing Nigeria ahead of AFCON 2025
Tunisia's head coach, Sami Trabelsi, has voiced his respect for the Super Eagles of Nigeria after both nations were drawn into Group C for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Carthage Eagles will face Nigeria, Uganda, and Tanzania in the group stage. The last time Tunisia and Nigeria met was in the Round of 16 at the 2021 AFCON, where the North Africans secured a narrow 1-0 victory.
Despite that win, Trabelsi described Nigeria as "a continental powerhouse" with a deep talent pool playing for top European clubs.
What Sami said
In an interview with CAFonline, the Tunisian coach also analysed the other teams in the group, highlighting the progress of their opponents.
"They are all nations to be respected. Tanzania is improving, with clubs regularly competing in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup," Trabelsi noted.
He added, "Uganda is a nation progressing steadily... everyone comes to the AFCON to go as far as possible, and often, unexpected teams beat strong."
Morocco will host the 35th edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.
