AFCON 2023: Fan attacks Ghana head coach Chris Hughton after Cape Verde defeat
A suspected Ghanaian was arrested following a physical attack on Ghana head coach Chris Hughton at the team hotel last night in Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire.
Ivorian local publication Instant Foot reported that it took the intervention of a few Ghanaian diplomats present on-site to save the coach from the assault.
The unidentified man was then handed over to the Ivorian police and has since been in custody.
The rage followed Ghana's disappointing 2-1 Africa Cup of Nations defeat at the hands of Cape Verde at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny on Sunday.

Jamiro Monteiro and Garry Rodriguez scored for Cape Verde, while Alexander Djiku netted the Black Stars' consolation.
The defeat put Ghana in an extremely difficult position, as they now have to avoid defeat against record-holder Egypt on Thursday if they are to stand any chance of making it to the knockout stages.
Following the defeat, Hughton was shocked and disappointed for letting the country down.
"We had an offensive strategy, but we were surprised; it's a bitter defeat for the expectations of the Ghanaian public," he told the press.
Cape Verde is now at the top of Group D with three points, while the Black Stars sit rock-bottom with none.
