AFCON 2023: Governor Sanwo-Olu rates 5 Super Eagles players after 2-0 win against Cameroon
In the Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeria defeated Cameroon 2-0 to advance to the quarterfinals, where they will take on Angola.
The Supr Eagles had an early Semi Ajayi goal disallowed due to a VAR review.
However, Victor Osimhen's relentless pressing and intimidation of the Cameroon defense resulted in Lookman scoring in the 36th minute.
The Indomitable Lions were then held at bay by a team that has proven impervious at this AFCON, and in front of 22,085 spectators at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan as Lookman ensured victory in the 90th minute.

In response to Nigeria's triumph over Cameroon in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, or AFCON, Round of 16, on Saturday night, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu singled out five Super Eagles players for special recognition.
As they advanced to the quarterfinal, Jose Peseiro's team received encouragement from Sanwo-Olu, who observed the AFCON match on television in Lagos.
In a message on his social media platforms, Sanwo-Olu said, "I totally enjoyed the Super Eagles' incredible display of teamwork and determination tonight against the team from Cameroon.
From Osimhen's hard work to Lookman's brace to Ekong and Bassey's very solid performances as well as Nwabali's solidity, kudos to the entire team.
"Onto the quarterfinals! Let's carry this momentum forward, Super Eagles.
"Best of luck in the next round, and may our journey in #TotalEnergiesAFCON2023 continue to shine bright."
The Super Eagles will now play again at the same location on Friday of next week in a last-eight match against Angola, who overcame Namibia 3-0 earlier.
