AFCON 2023: Nigerians rejoice as President Tinubu set to watch Super Eagles vs Cote d’Ivoire
The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) championship match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Elephants of Cote d'Ivoire, the hosts, is set to take place on Sunday at the Alassanne Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan.
Bola Tinubu, the president of Nigeria, is scheduled to attend the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final, according to Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football Federations (CAF).
Motsepe was questioned about when Africa could host the World Cup once more at his news conference on Friday at the Palace de la Culture in Trechville, Abidjan.
It was then the South African business mogul responded that he would have a conversation with President Tinubu at the AFCON final.
Tinubu to attend AFCON 2023 final
In the semi-finals on Wednesday, the Super Eagles overcame South Africa 4-2 on penalties, and vice president of Nigeria Kashim Shettima was present.
Before the Super Eagles' game against Angola on February 2, Tinubu made a video call to them from his final resting place in France.
Seyi Tinubu, the president's son, posted a video of the incident and mentioned that the president had contacted the team to encourage them before their quarterfinal match in the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.
On January 25, Tinubu expressed his dissatisfaction with the group matches and challenged the Super Eagles to do better in the remaining stages of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoire.
