AFCON 2023: Trouble for Ghana, Egypt as Bebe sends Cape Verde into the Round of 16

Former Manchester United outcast Tiago Manuel Dias Correia alias Bebe was on target for Cape Verde as they thrashed Mozambique 3-0 in their second match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Bebe netted once, with Ryan Mendes and Kevin Lenini scoring the other two at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium on Friday.

Victory to Cape Verde into the Round of 16 with a game to spare, having collected a maximum six points in two games.

However, the result has come at the expense of heavyweights Ghana, Egypt as well as the Mozambiqans.

Both Ghana and Egypt will need to beat Mozambique and Cape Verde in their next matches if they're to stand any chances of progressing to the knockouts.

With just two points in as many games, victory will be enough to see Egypt through.

Meanwhile, victory for Ghana won't guarantee them passage as they will pray to Egypt fails to win their encounter with Cape Verde.

The only other slim avenue for progress will be if either of the teams can make the list for the four third-best ranked teams.
