Guirassy's latest achievement came during Dortmund's 3-0 victory over Sporting CP in the first leg of their knockout phase play-off on Tuesday night.
He scored the opening goal with a header, which allowed him to surpass Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski, who had led the competition with nine goals.
Lewandowski had been the top scorer for much of the league phase, highlighted by two penalties in Barcelona's 5-4 win against Benfica on Matchday 7.
However, Guirassy caught up by scoring twice in Dortmund's 3-1 victory against Shakhtar Donetsk on Matchday 8 before making the top spot his in the playoff first leg.
Currently, Lewandowski's teammate Raphinha is also in contention with eight goals, along with Manchester City's Erling Haaland.
Real Madrid’s VinÃcius Junior is not far behind with seven goals, with a total of seven players, including Ousmane Dembélé, Viktor Gyökeres and Harry Kane, each having six goals.
Guirassy's goal against Sporting CP was his tenth in the Champions League this season. He now holds the distinction of being the top scorer in the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League.
In a related development, the 28-year-old’s contributions against Sporting saw him enter into Dortmund’s Champions League folklore.
As reported by Pulse Sports Nigeria, the Guinean goal machine is now the first Dortmund player to score or assist more goals in a single Champions League season.
While he’s matched Erling Haaland’s 10 goals, Guirassy’s 10 goals and 3 assists see him stand out in the competition for the Germans.
