Algeria, Ethiopia the threat in Uganda Crested Cranes path to AWCON 2024

Algeria’s women's national team is the main obstacle that stands in Uganda Crested Cranes' path to the 2024 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.

The draws that were conducted on Thursday drew Uganda against Algeria in the first round to be played in September.

The winner of the fixture will face their equivalent in the tie between Burundi and Ethiopia.

Currently, the Crested Cranes are ranked 161st in the FIFA Rankings.

Algeria is ranked 80th in the world and 7th in Africa and was seeded in Pot 1.

The Algerians played at the continental tournament in 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018.

The Ethiopians are ranked 124th globally and 16th in Africa.

The team has played at three AWCONs, but their best performance came in 2004 when they reached the semifinals.
