Asafa Powell gifts new homes to Hurricane Melissa victims as 43rd birthday celebration
Track legend Asafa Powell celebrated his 43rd birthday by leading a special relief effort, delivering new homes to families displaced by the devstating effect of Hurricane Melissa.
The retired Jamaican icon shared the emotional experience on his Instagram account, reflecting on the significance of the day.
"Amazing way to spend my birthday! Delivering homes to families affected by the hurricane, who might not get to celebrate holidays like this," he wrote. "It was truly special seeing their smiles and tears of joy."
Powell, a former 100m world record holder also extended his gratitude to those who contributed to the cause, adding, "Thanks to everyone who donated through the GoFundMe. I really appreciate it."
This initiative follows another recent charitable act by Powell and his wife, Alyshia. Earlier in the month, the couple distributed groceries and toiletries to hurricane victims in Georges Valley, St. Elizabeth. That donation was made possible by American Olympian Noah Lyles, through his Lyles Brothers Sports Foundation, and his fiancée, Jamaican track athlete Junelle Bromfield.
