Asaph Mwebaze: I was fired verbally, waiting for an official letter

Soltilo Bright Stars head coach Asaph Mwebaze has confirmed he was ‘let go’ by the club through a verbal communication with chairman Grace Kwizera.

Mwebaze and Kwizera were seen together at Legends Rugby Grounds on Saturday in a conversation that has now revealed his sacking.

“What I was told is that I was let go from my responsibilities at the football club,” Mwebaze revealed while appearing on NBS Sport Monday morning.

“Of course, I am waiting for an official letter because when you are appointed, you are given one, so when you are dismissed, you are probably given another one,” he added.

“It was a verbal communication with the chairman of the football club.”

Pulse Sports broke the story of Mwebaze’s sacking on Saturday after a tip from a well-placed source.

Mwebaze’s sacking will come as a shocker, considering the team’s performance last season.

Bright Starts finished ninth in the Startimes Uganda Premier League after winning nine games, drawing eight to garner 35 points.

The club also eliminated KCCA FC in the quarter-final of the Stanbic Uganda Cup before losing to eventual champions Vipers SC in the semis.

With that kind of run, the tactician’s sacking will raise eyebrows.

Bright Stars are yet to communicate on the development officially.

Mwebaze has now joined the long list of coaches who have left their roles at various UPL clubs going into the news season. 

League champions Vippers, KCCA FC and SC Villa have all changed coaches going into the season.

The same can be said of newly-promoted sides, Kitara FC, Mbarara City FC and NEC.
