Gerrard left his post at the club with immediate effect on Thursday night after a 3-0 loss to Fulham at the Craven Cottage.

It was Aston Villa's sixth loss in 11 league matches in the current season, with the defeat leaving them in 17th place just one spot above the relegation zone.

Gerrard's sack was confirmed on Thursday night through an official press statement published on the Aston Villa website.

The brief statement read: "Aston Villa Football Club can confirm that Head Coach Steven Gerrard has left the club with immediate effect.

"A club spokesman said: “We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him well for the future.”

Gerrard's tenure at Aston Villa comes to an end as the former Liverpool midfielder could not maintain the results he enjoyed when he first joined the club in November 2021.
