Barcelona star Araujo leaves field in tears after horrific injury against Brazil in Copa America
Uruguay defeated Brazil in a penalty shootout in the quarter-final of their Copa America clash after playing a goalless draw at regular time.
During the game, Araújo, who has been one of the best players in the tournament sustained a crushing injury that got him stretched off the field.
The injury comes as bad news for Barcelona who have also seen Pedri being ruled out for one month and a few weeks.
Araújo’s injury
At the thirty-minute mark of Uruguay’s game against Brazil in the Copa America quarterfinal, Ronald Araujo pulled out of the match in tears due to a muscular issue in his right leg.
The centre defender from Uruguay moved forward to stop an Arana cross, but it looked like he hurt himself when he extended his right leg.
According to Mundodeportivo, the Barcelona player fell to the ground, covering his face with his hands as his teammates and opponents drew near.
Uruguay's medical services asked for a replacement right away with the defender leaving the pitch in tears and was replaced by José María Giménez.
Due to his lengthy history of muscular issues, the Uruguayan centre defender may need to miss his preseason with Hansi Flick's club.
While the diagnosis and presence of a tear are still being determined, the player's reported feelings are concerning.
Araujo's injury occurred a few hours after Pedri sustained a grade 2 internal lateral sprain in his left knee which will require surgery and keep him out for around a month.
