As Arsenal's injury woes worsened, Bukayo Saka is expected to miss a further eight weeks of action.
Saka may not be able to return until mid-April due to a similar ailment, as the Gunners stated that German Kai Havertz would be sidelined for the season due to hamstring surgery.
Arsenal hoped Saka would be well by the following month as he hobbled away from the 5-1 thumping of Crystal Palace in December.
During this week's training camp in Dubai, the club released images of the England star practising rehabilitation exercises.
However, manager Mikel Arteta will not take another chance on Saka until he is completely ready.
The winger may potentially miss up to four months of action because of his reluctance to risk Saka.
It is anticipated that Arteta, who is currently without Gabriel Jesus, will be without fellow Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli for a month.
Last week, he suffered a hamstring strain during the Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg loss at Newcastle.
After yesterday's wild 2-2 draw with Everton, Arsenal is now seven points behind Liverpool at the top of the standings.
