CAF Awards 2023: Aucho, Gift Fred's Yanga to battle Onyango's Mamelodi Sundowns for Club of the Year

Khalid Aucho and Gift Fred's Young Africans SC has been nominated to the final CAF Club of the Year list in the forthcoming 2023 CAF Awards.

The East African powerhouse must fend off opposition from African Football League champions and Dennis Onyango's Mamelodi Sundowns.

To round off the list are CAF Champions League record holders Al Ahly of Egypt, USM Alger of Algeria and Moroccan outfit Wydad Casablanca.

Yanga will fancy themselves to pose a challenge as they are the reigning Tanzania Premier League champions.

They also made the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup final before narrowly losing to USM Alger by Away goals rule, having tied 2-2 after two legs.

Yanga then hit the group stages of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League, where they will battle Al Ahly, CR Belouizdad and Medeama.

On the other hand, Mamelodi Sundowns, who are the slight favourites, are the reigning African Football League and Premier Soccer League champions.

Meanwhile, Al Ahly, the other strong contenders, are the standing champions for the Egyptian Premier League and the CAF Champions League.
