Chinese Zhou Qihao admits Lagos is crazy

World table tennis No. 35 Zhou Qihao, has disclosed that the World Table Tennis Contender in Lagos is crazy.

Zhou Qihao won the men's after causing an upset defeating world No. 14 Dima Ovtcharov 4-1 to lift his first WTT Contender Singles title.

Dimitrij Ovtcharov of Germany, who won the double Olympic singles bronze medal, was defeated by Qihao of China in five games.

Qihao won the competition at the Sir Molade Okoya Thomas Indoor Sports Hall with a score of 11-7, 11-6, 11-8, 7-11, and 11-7.

Earlier, he defeated Jonathan Groth of Denmark 11-7, 12-14, 11-7, 11-5 to secure his place in the championship final. In the other semifinal match, Ovtcharov defeated India's Harmeet Desai 11-7, 11-6, 11-9.

Zhou Qihao described the WTT Lagos as a crazy championship after winning his first title in Lagos.

He added that he worked hard to defeat Fan's favorite at the Molade Okoya indoor hall.

He said, "First of all, I'm very happy to get a victory here because everybody works very hard to get this result. Playing against Dimitrij (fans' favorite).

"Chinese are everywhere. When players go around the world, they get a lot of fans. All the Chinese people are very glad about this.

"For Dimitrij, Nigerians applauded and cheered him, but I'm lucky to win this competition. Describing the competition in one word, Crazy."

Meanwhile, Shin Yu-Bin of South Korea won the women’s singles, after defeating Yake Li of China in six games.
