Copa America: Assist king Lionel Messi reacts as Argentina take “first step” towards glory

Argentina captain and football legend Lionel Messi played a pivotal role as the defending champions began their Copa America campaign with a 2-0 win against Canada.

The Inter Miami forward was instrumental, setting up Lautaro Martinez after Julian Alvarez had opened the scoring.

This could be Messi's last tournament and there is clearly a motivation to go out on a winning note, especially as the tournament is being played in the United States, where he currently resides.

Reacting after the game, Messi, in a post via his Instagram story expressed his delight over the victory.

The former Barcelona star posted: “First step,”Alongside a picture of himself with his teammates.

Argentina take on Chile next Tuesday as they look to wrap up qualification for the quarter-finals.
