David Rudisha mentors budding athletes in Glasgow after gracing popular local race

Upcoming athletes in Glasgow, Scotland got some vital lessons on how they can become world beaters when world 800m record holder David Rudisha shared tips with them on Saturday.

Rudisha, who is an international ambassador for the World Athletics Indoor Championships, attended the annual Allan Scally Memorial Road Relay Race to the surprise and delight of participants whom he later interacted with after taking part in the prize-giving ceremony.

The middle distance great gave winners training tips following the popular 4x5km relay race organised by prominent city athletics group, Shettleston Harriers.

"I am thrilled to be a part of this prestigious local race and to chat to the passionate athletics community here in Glasgow,” said Rudisha, as per World Athletics.

“It's a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the spirit of the sport and showcase the excitement around the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24."

The two-time Olympic champion presented prizes to winning men’s and women’s teams, with Stirling University Athletics Club taking out the men’s race and Glasgow University Athletics Club claiming first place in the women’s race.

With 1,000 runners (250 teams of four) entering this year’s event, the road relay takes place in and around Glasgow Green, just a stone’s throw from where the World Championships is currently taking place.

"Having David join us for the Allan Scally Road Relay Race is a real treat. His presence will undoubtedly inspire our runners and add an extra layer of excitement to this already eagerly anticipated event,” said Shettleston Harriers president and club Coach Elaine Mackay.

Held in memory of the esteemed coach and team manager Allan Scally, the race is a traditional 4x5km relay event, attracting top athletes and enthusiastic spectators alike.

The Allan Scally Trophy, awarded to the winning team, stands as one of Scottish road racing's most prestigious honours.
