Belgian sports journalist Peter Vandenbempt has told Belgian club KRC Genk to consider selling one of either Cyriel Dessers or Paul Onuachu.

The 55-year-old suggested that the club cannot keep both Nigerian internationals due to their impressive seasons during the 2021/22 season.

Genk are spoilt for choice in their striking positions after Dessers and Onuachu who are both on their books scored a cumulative 44 goals during the 2021/22 season.

Vandenbempt told Italian news outlet Sporza that he does not believe it is a 'good idea' to have both players on the team only to keep one on the bench.

The Belgian journalist said: "I don't think it's a good idea to have Paul Onuachu and Cyriel Dessers together. Basically you don't set them both up and you don't want to put either one on the couch."

Dessers was on loan at Feyenoord last season, where he shone in the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League scoring 10 goals in 13 matches to lead the Dutch side to the tournament's final.

It was based on Dessers' excellent 2021/22 season that Vandenbempt suggested that Genk would be better served to sell one of the Nigerian strikers.

"Cyriel Dessers was there 2 years ago, but now has a different status. And despite Onuachu's lesser season, he still scored his goals. It would be good if someone else leaves," Vandenbempt said.
