Dr Sid: Kond10r CEO rubbishes claims that Esports in Nigeria is ‘tailor-made for the rich’
In a recent interview with Pulse Sports, Dr. Sid, the former musician turned CEO of Kon10dr and Sidizens Gaming, dismissed claims that the eSports scene in Nigeria is reserved exclusively for the elite.
The multifaceted entrepreneur emphasized that the esports community in the country is indeed “inclusive” and provides opportunities for individuals from all walks of life.
Addressing the notion that eSports is only for the affluent, Dr. Sid expressed his disbelief, stating, “I don’t have anything to say to people who believe that way. I only have one question… are they part of the community?"
He highlighted the efforts Kon10dr has made to break down barriers, organizing tournaments with free entries where participants have the chance to compete for substantial prizes.
The Kon10dr CEO, who recently attended the opening of the cutting-edge gaming arena, Carven by Gamr, at Landmark Boulevard in Victoria Island, Lagos, used the platform to shed light on the accomplishments of professional gamers in Nigeria.
Dr. Sid applauded their resilience, noting that these individuals have been navigating the eSports landscape for years without significant support in the early stages of their career.
“These guys have been doing this for years without no help from day one. Not from me or anyone, and now see where they are," Dr. Sid remarked.
He attributed their success to consistent participation and involvement in the eSports community. Encouraging others to follow suit, he emphasized that anyone seeking to experience the real benefits of eSports should actively join the community.
Kon10dr, under Dr. Sid’s leadership, has played a pivotal role in shaping the eSports landscape in Nigeria.
The platform is renowned for organizing the Kon10dr Esports Championship, the first and one of the largest eSports tournament in the country.
Since its inception in January 2022, the annual tournament has boasted substantial pool prizes of well over N50 million.
The Kon10dr Esports Championship showcases a diverse range of popular gaming titles, including FC 24 (formerly known as EA Sports FIFA), Call of Duty Mobile, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, and others.
This diversity not only attracts a wide array of participants but also contributes to the growth and inclusivity of the eSports community in Nigeria.
By organizing accessible tournaments, supporting the grassroots gaming community, and acknowledging the efforts of professional gamers, Kon10dr is playing a crucial role in promoting eSports in the country.
