East African Parliamentary Games: How Uganda got awarded three points over South Sudan without kicking a ball

The Ugandan Parliamentary Football team has been awarded maximum points at the expense of their neighbours, South Sudan, without stepping foot on the pitch at the East African Parliamentary Games.

Uganda and South Sudan were bound to tussle it out on Saturday, but the latter abandoned the game over chaos lingering around the ineligibility of some members of parliament to feature.

South Sudan claimed three players, including Peter Ogwang (Sports Minister), Paul Nsubuga (Busiro North), and Karim Masaba, who represents Mbale City, were impersonators only hired for the games and not actual MPs.

Despite the explanations, the South Sudanese insisted the three were mercenaries from outside parliament, hence the abandonment.

Following the latter's decision to abandon the game, the Independent Competitions and Disciplinary Committee awarded three points to Uganda.

"After our first game against South Sudan was abandoned yesterday, an Independent Competitions and Disciplinary Committee ruled in our favour after finding out our total adherence to all requirements; we take three points," a communication from Team Uganda confirmed.

In their subsequent match, Uganda is set to take on hosts Rwanda later on Monday at the Kigali Pele Arena.

It should be noted that Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) president and Budiope East legislator Moses Magogo is the captain of the Ugandan team.
