Express coach James Odoch tells fans to forget about UPL trophy next season

Express coach James Odoch advises fans to temper their expectations for the upcoming season of the Uganda Premier League.

In his professional capacity, Odoch emphasizes the importance of developing the team's young players for long-term success rather than focusing on immediate championship aspirations.

"This season, our main goal is not to win the league title," Odoch stated, taking into account the current state of the club and the quality of the players.

His intention is to nurture and shape the team, primarily relying on graduates from the club's junior team.

Additionally, a few strategic acquisitions such as Isaac Wagoina, Alpha Thierry Ssali, Emmanuel Wasswa, and Sheif Batte will contribute to the team's progress.

"My aim is for us to secure a top-four finish this term, as we plan to build the team around a core group of talented youngsters from our Junior team."

It is worth noting that Express finished in 10th place last season, accumulating 34 points from 28 matches.

During the ongoing transfer window, the team has experienced the departure of several players, including Hussein Ssenoga, Faisal Ssekyanzi, Andrew Kaggwa, Denis Otim, Abdul Kimera, and others.

Allan Kayiwa, last season's top scorer and captain of Express, is still searching for a new team, leaving uncertainty about his future at Wankulukuku for the upcoming campaign.

Express's most recent taste of glory came in the 2019/20 season when they clinched both the league title and the CECAFA Kagame Cup in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
