FIFA lines Anukani’s strike against Bright Stars as a potential Puskas Goal of the year
Anukani will enter the final of the Stanbic Uganda Cup on Saturday with a bright face after his goal for Vipers from the semifinal against Soltilo Bright Stars earned FIFA’s recognition.
Anukani went for the rare beauty for Vipers' third goal in a 4-0 win in the first leg of the Cup in front of a decent home crowd at the St. Mary's Stadium in Kitende on May 20th.
With the game 2-0 up after the 26th minute, Vipers made a timely clearance inside a melee in the box; Karim Watambala, Militon Karisa and Bright Anukani started what appeared like a quick counter-attack.
Watambala controlled the high ball with one touch; Anukani showed intention to go for it, raced through to the center-circle, raised his head to spot Hassan Matovu’s position in Bright Stars goal and then went for a 50+-yard hit that meticulously flew all the way to drop at the back of the net.
