FIFA Ranking: Uganda Cranes’ Position Unchallenged Despite Not Playing in March
Uganda may not have played in the just-concluded March 2026 international window but it did not have an impact on their FIFA ranking.
Uganda Cranes saw their previously scheduled matches cancelled due to safety concerns, disrupting coach Paul Put’s plans, but fans will be delighted to learn that their place on the ranking table was unchallenged.
The Cranes were initially set to play Bahrain and Madagascar in Turkey in the March window but FUFA made a decision to cancel the matches due to uncertainty of the players’ security, owing to the war between Iran, Israel and the United States, which has affected a number of Middle East nations.
Concerns about travel logistics to the Middle East, where a number of nations have closed their airspace, led to the decision from FUFA. However, Uganda has remained at position 88 on the FIFA ranking as per the latest update made on Wednesday.
This is because none of the teams around them did enough to dislodge them at a time when they were not playing with Benin getting close after moving to position 90, having jumped two places, thanks to their 1-0 win over Guinea.
Uganda Remain Kings of East Africa
Angola, in 89th position did not also play in March, while Gabon dropped one place to position 87, following a 2-2 draw with Trinidad and Tobago.
Uganda has 1,264.09 points last updated after their group stage exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
In East Africa, the Cranes remain the top team with Kenya second in the region at position 111, having moved up two places following a 3-0 win over Grenada, while Tanzania, who lost 1-0 to Liechtenstein, dropped three places to 113.
Morocco is the top ranked African nation followed by Senegal (14th globally), Nigeria, 26th in the world, Algeria (28th in the world) and Egypt, 29th in the world, completing the top five while globally, Spain has lost top spot to France, dropping to second position, with Argentina, England, Portugal, Brazil, Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium and Germany making the top 10.
