First-ever continental medal in Uganda Women's football

The Uganda U20 Women's football team, the Queen Cranes made history after delivering the country's first-ever piece of silverware on the continent in women's football.

The Queen Cranes clinched bronze in the African Games after toppling West African giants Senegal at Cape Coast on Thursday.

Sheryl Botes' charges won 6-5 after post-match penalties following a barren stalemate in normal time.

Shakirah Nankwanga, Catherine Nagadya, Shamirah Nalugya, Harima Kanyago, Shamusa Najjuma and Catherine Wujja all converted from the spot.

And despite Dorcus Lwalisa missing hers, the Queen Cranes held on to scoop the coveted bronze medal.

Meanwhile, hosts Ghana clinched gold after beating nemesis Nigeria 2-1 after exra time.
