Tonight, Tuesday 17th September Manchester United will host Barnsley for round three of the league cup and one player is expected to come out of the shadows and represent the team between the sticks.

Turkish goalkeeper, Altay Bayindir, who has spent most of his time in the shadows, is on the verge of a potentially triumphant return.

Since joining Manchester United from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023, Bayindir's presence has been something of a mystery.

Despite a substantial €5 million transfer fee, he’s made just one appearance for the club—against Newport County in January where they won 4-2. Since then, he has largely watched from the sidelines as Erik ten Hag's first-choice goalkeeper, Andre Onana, has enjoyed all the game time.

Yet, as the Carabao Cup beckons with a fixture against Barnsley on Tuesday night, Bayindir finds himself on the cusp of redemption. The 26-year-old has been diligently working behind the scenes, keeping himself sharp and ready for the moment when he might finally seize his chance.

Bayindir’s journey is not just a tale of waiting in the wings but of persistence and hope. His dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed, and fans are beginning to feel that his long-awaited second appearance could be just around the corner.

While Onana’s form has been stellar, Bayindir's potential to add depth to the squad makes him an intriguing prospect.

Could this be the start of something special for the Turkish shot-stopper? Only time will tell.
