Gongodyo, Aweko and Bbale headline the April real stars awards winners

A total of six athletes from six disciplines were recognized for their efforts in April at the Real Stars Awards on Tuesday morning in Kampala.

Rugby, Cricket, Basketball, Golf, netball and football disciplines produced six different winners on the day, with Pirates' Sydney Gongodyo beating Heathens' Aaron Ofoywroth and Kobs' Pius Ogena to the award.

Gongodyo inspired the sea robbers to four wins in April and also picked up a man of the match award during the Pirates' most significant victory in the second round, an 8-6 win over Heathens at Kyadondo.

Consy Aweko bagged the best cricketer award for April after she guided her team to the Victoria series on home soil; she was also named the best bowler after she picked up seven wickets at the tournament.

Aweko beat her assistant, Ritah Mbababzi and Kevin Awino, to the award.

The football category saw SC Villa forward Charles Bbale bag the award following his top performance in April; the lanky forward scored five goals in 5 games as he helped his side collect nine points from a possible 15.

Bbale beat Kawempe Muslim's Shakirah Nyibnagahirwa, now reigning Women's League MVP and NEC's Tony Kiberu.

JT Lady Jaguars point guard Sarah Ageno claimed the award for best basketballer of April; Ageno guided her side to four out of five wins in the Women's league, along with three players of the game awards. She beat Ruai Luak and Fayed Bbale, both from City Oil, to the prize.

Juma Abiti received the best golfer award for April after his top performance in the All Africa Junior Golf Championship as Uganda claimed the second spot.

Abiti, who beat Joseph Akena and Abdul Kakeeto to the award, finished 7th overall in the boy's category out of 56 players that participated in the U-18 event; his scores helped Uganda qualify for the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup.

Prisons Netball club's Christine Namulumba claimed the Netballer Award of April, she not only top-scored for her side as they claimed the league, but she also scored 181 goals in their last four games, beating Marget Bagaala (NIC) and Shadia Nassanga (KCCA).
