The young Egyptian table tennis star, Hana Goda, has cemented her legacy by holding the number one ranking in the International Table Tennis Federation's (ITTF) U-17 Girls' Singles.

The 15-year-old ranked number one in the world in the 11th week of the year's ITTF Rankings.

Hana Goda makes history in Africa

Recall that she became the youngest table tennis player to win an African senior continental event with her triumph in Lagos last year.

She clinched gold at the ITTF-Africa Cup, the second-most significant continental table tennis competition after the African Senior Championships.

She was dominant throughout the entire tournament, winning both of her group stage matches in straight games before defeating Nigerian legend Olufunke Oshonaike 4-0 in the quarter-finals.

She also saw off compatriot Dina Meshref, the six-time African senior champion, in a tough 4-3 win before blasting surprise finalist Fatimo Bello 4-0 in consecutive games to take the title.

She has said that she is targeting medals at the world stage after her exists at the Singapore Smash.

She said, “It’s very nice that there are a lot of Egyptian players (in the top ranks), and this makes a lot of people more interested in having their children play the sport.

“Everyone is starting to like table tennis more. It’s very nice to see because we want to, some day, be one of the top five teams in the world. That’s our dream.”

Goda has benefited from the ITTF With the Future in Mind program.
