Hard-battling Uganda fight back to draw with four-time AFCON champions Ghana

The Uganda Cranes needed to twice come back from behind to pick a well deserved 2-2 stalemate against four-time Africa Cup of Nations champions Ghana in an international friendly played in Morocco.

Jordan Ayew and Jerome Opoku netted for the Black Stars, while Steven Desse Mukwala and Muhammad Shaban were on the scoresheet for Uganda in Marrakech on Tuesday.

Opoku netted Ghana's first in the seventh minute, as he finished off a fine pass from Crystal Palace forward Ayew.

The Cranes then grabbed a leveller in the 22nd minute through a well-struck Mukwala penalty.

Seven minutes later, Ayew brought the Black Stars back into the driving seat with a neat penalty past BUL FC goalkeeper Tom Ikara.

Uganda, who had looked the likelier to score in the second half, finally netted a second through Shaban from close range after the Ghanaian defence failed to deal with a loose ball.

Shaban had minutes back missed an easier chance, as he was denied by goalkeeper Joseph Wollacot, having been set through by Fahad Bayo.

The result comes as redemption for Uganda, who had suffered a 4-0 mauling at the hands of the lowly ranked Comoros on Friday.
