He must do this — Ex-Chelsea midfielder names the ONE thing Cole Palmer needs to get to the next level
Chelsea currently boast one of the most exciting talents in world football in Cole Palmer.
However, a former Blue Jody Morris believes the next step is critical.
What Jody Morris said
Speaking to talkSPORT, Morris was full of praise after Palmer’s match‑winning display in the Club World Cup final, but he underlined one milestone still to reach.
Despite dazzling performances in both the Conference League and Club World Cup finals — scoring twice and setting up the third against PSG, Morris insisted European club football remains the true proving ground for a superstar's evolution.
“For me, he’s a superstar already, but I still think he’s got another level to go to, because I think you need to play in the Champions League for you to be considered the next level,” the former Chelsea coach said.
Palmer delivers on the grandest stage
Palmer’s meteoric rise continued in mid‑July when he starred at MetLife Stadium, leading Chelsea to a 3‑0 dismantling of PSG.
He scored twice inside 22 minutes, assisted Joao Pedro before half‑time, and was awarded Player of the Tournament.
Head coach Enzo Maresca lauded Palmer’s response to major occasions.
“These are the games we expect Cole Palmer to appear in and once again he showed what he is made of,” the Blues manager said as per Reuters.
Even Alan Shearer recognised Palmer's excellence, naming him in his Club World Cup Team of the Tournament, while Luis Enrique, PSG’s coach, conceded how instrumental Palmer was to Chelsea’s triumph.
