How Sofyan Amrabat was 'sent off twice' as Morocco got dumped by South Africa
Morocco and Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat received a 'double sending off' during Morroco's Africa Cup of Nations 2-0 defeat to South Africa in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.
Evidence Makgopa and Teboho Mokoena netted for South Africa to eject the World Cup semifinalists.
At 1-0, the Moroccans had a chance to level it, but PSG defender Achraf Hakimi failed to convert.
The night then went from bad to worse as Amrabat got sent off 'twice' in quick succession.
Following a reckless challenge he made as the last defender for Morroco, the referee was quick to award a second yellow and red card to the player.
However, after a VAR check gave Amrabat some hope and his team belief that they could steal an equaliser, the second yellow was upgraded to a straight red.
Meanwhile, South Africa advanced to the quarterfinals to set up a clash with Cape Verde.
