'I am better' - Alex Pereira reminds Israel Adesanya of 3 losses to 1 win

Alex Pereira, the former undisputed middleweight champion, insists that despite his second-round knockout defeat to Israel Adesanya at UFC 287 earlier this month, he is still superior to the two-time division champion. 

Pereira took to social media to cite his three previous victories over Adesanya as evidence of his superiority.

When Pereira, a former undisputed middleweight champion under the promotion's banner, faced off against Adesanya in the main event of UFC 287 earlier this month in Miami, Florida, he was knocked out in the second round, losing his undisputed championship.

The fight was the fourth time Pereira and Adesanya had faced off; the Brazilian had won three straight decisions prior to his defeat at UFC 287.

With his knockout triumph at UFC 287, Adesanya claimed his first victory in the four-fight series.

However, he refused to fight Alex Pereira in the first of a championship trilogy following UFC 287, as the Sao Paulo native was planning to move up to the light heavyweight division.

Adesanya, who found solace in his lone victory over Pereira in Florida, was cautioned by the Brazilian to temper his joy after UFC 287 by reminding him of the 3-1 deficit he still faces.

Featuring a video of his previous fights with Adesanya, Pereira o Twitter said, “We are the best.

“But I’m still better. Numbers don’t lie. 3:1.” 

Pereira, who has not yet scheduled his upcoming light heavyweight debut, has been predicted to stay away from a bout with the previous contender for the vacant title Magomed Ankalaev in his professional debut. 

However, Jiri Prochazka, a former champion, has backed Pereira to advance the division.

The winner of the championship eliminator between Robert Whittaker and Dricus du Plessis is anticipated to face Nigerian-Kiwi fighter Adesanya later this year in a scheduled UFC event in Sydney, Australia.
