‘It is an option’ - Leverkusen manager open to the possibility of pairing Boniface and Schick
Boniface played a key role in Leverkusen’s quarterfinal win against Koln in the DFB Pokal yesterday.
Bayer Leverkusen were behind 2-1 when the Super Eagles star entered the game in the 76th minute, joining Schick in attack.
Eventually, both players scored to give Die Werkself a 3-2 victory, with Boniface’s presence proving the manager's substitution was spot on.
Alonso on Boniface and Schick partnership
When asked if he would entertain the idea of Boniface and Schick working together in an attack, Alonso said that he is open to making it happen.
According to Die Werkself, he said, “Yes, that’s an option. We decide what we need every game, and if we think they can link up and understand what the team needs, it’s an option.”
This season, Boniface has produced some good numbers despite being hit with injury this season.
The Nigerian international recently returned from injury and scored in their 3-1 win against Hoffenheim after being out of action since December
The striker has now scored eight goals in all competitions for Leverkusen this season as Alonso’s side looks to defend their title.
