‘It should be disallowed!’ — Super Eagles star fumes after controversial Man United goal
Fulham defender Calvin Bassey has voiced his fury after Manchester United’s controversial opener at Craven Cottage, insisting the goal should never have stood.
The Super Eagles star was left unimpressed by the officiating as Fulham battled to a 1-1 draw in a tense Premier League clash.
Bassey slams refereeing decisions
The drama unfolded in the 58th minute when United went ahead courtesy of an own goal by Rodrigo Muniz, pressured heavily by Leny Yoro during a corner.
However, Bassey believes he was unfairly impeded in the build-up, claiming Yoro’s actions directly prevented him from winning the ball.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Bassey vented his frustration: “It’s the same as my one, it’s a foul. He’s pushed me and stopped me getting to the ball. When the referees look back at it, they’ll be disappointed.”
The Nigerian international was also baffled by the lack of a proper VAR review, highlighting the inconsistency in how fouls are interpreted.
“He’s got two hands on me, how much force do you need? It should be disallowed,” Bassey added, clearly frustrated with the officials’ decision-making.
Fulham fight back but first win still elusive
Despite the setback, Fulham showed resilience, with substitute Emile Smith Rowe grabbing an equaliser to ensure the home side earned a point.
Bruno Fernandes had earlier missed a penalty for United after Bassey himself was penalised for fouling Mason Mount, adding more spice to the heated encounter.
The result means Fulham are still chasing their first Premier League win of the season after another 1-1 draw at Brighton the previous weekend.
For Manchester United, Ruben Amorim’s men also remain without a victory, having lost 1-0 to Arsenal in their previous outing. The debate over the controversial goal, however, is likely to linger long after the final whistle.
