Jaimaican Sprinter Tina Clayton Reflects on Doha Diamond League Defeat to Twin Sister Tia
Jamaican sprint sensation Tina Clayton has opened up about her narrow loss to twin sister Tia Clayton at the Diamond League meet in Doha on Friday, marking a fierce but respectful rivalry between the siblings on the international stage.
Coming into the race with high momentum, Tina had just played a pivotal role in securing Jamaica’s ticket to the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo during the World Relays.
There, she teamed up with Tia and sprint icon Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in a star-studded Jamaican relay squad.

However, in Doha, the trio turned competitors, with Tia emerging victorious in the women’s 100m sprint.
Tia clocked a blistering 10.92 seconds to take the win, while Tina followed closely in second place with 11.02.
Great Britain’s Amy Hunt claimed third, and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, despite her legendary status, finished fourth.
Tina on Competing Against Tia
Reflecting on the race, Tina admitted her execution wasn’t perfect but maintained a positive outlook.
“I think I executed the race a bit poorly, but I can't complain. I have to be grateful for this result because it is still the beginning of the season and it is a SB (season’s best) for me,” she said.
“This year has been going well. To be second just behind my sister Tia is a great feeling.”
Tina highlighted the unique dynamic between her and Tia, both as training partners and rivals.
“We are twin sisters, we are training partners, and we also compete together. When we line up for a race, we are no longer sisters, we are rival competitors. But after the race is over, it feels really good to make the top two places.”
Eyes on the World Stage For Tina
Looking ahead, Tina plans to regroup in Jamaica as she prepares for her next race on home soil.
Her sights are firmly set on making the Jamaican squad for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, ideally, alongside her sister.
“My next meeting will be in Jamaica, so now I will be back there to regroup and focus on my next steps. My big goal for 2025 will be to make the Jamaican team for the World Championships along with my sister.”
With both sisters in top form and pushing each other on and off the track, the Claytons look poised to shake up the Jamaican camp.
