Kenya shock Trinidad and Tobago to finish seventh in Hockey 5s World Cup

Kenya turned the tables around in a gripping encounter against Trinidad & Tobago at the FIH Men's World Cup securing a commendable seventh place finish and relegating their opponents to the eighth spot.

Kenya's Bethuel Masambu emerged as the hero scoring a hat trick with a decisive goal at full-time in a 7-5 victory over the Caribbean nation.

Danstone Wabwire, Moses Andemba, and Ivan Ludiali also contributed significantly to Kenya's triumph, each adding a goal to the tally.

In a post-match conference, Kenya's coach Michael Malungu heaped praise on his team's resilience.

"This win reflects the spirit and the potential of Kenyan hockey. We've come a long way, and today, we've made our mark," said coach Malungu.

Trinidad & Tobago despite their valiant efforts could not withstand the Kenyan onslaught.

Their goals came courtesy of Marcano Teague and a hat-trick from Toussaint Akim, but it wasn’t enough to secure a victory.

Kenya started the tournament started with a bang, defeating powerhouse Australia 6-1 but then suffered defeats to Trinidad & Tobago and Oman.

However,their resilience shone through as they bounced back to secure a 9-4 victory against India in the 5th-8th place match.

Kenya's participation in the World Cup was a result of their commendable performance at the 1st Africa Hockey5s World Cup Qualifier in Ismailia, Egypt, where they finished third.
