Kenyan Giants Express Interest in Signing Uganda Cranes Star Allan Okello Amid CHAN 2024 Exploits
Kenya’s record 12-time champions AFC Leopards have declared their interest in Uganda Cranes forward Allan Okello, who has lit up the ongoing CHAN 2024 tournament.
The club’s Secretary General, Isaac Mulindi, confirmed that initial talks have taken place but admitted convincing the striker will be a tall order.
Okello, 25, is enjoying the finest spell of his career. The Vipers SC captain not only bagged the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League Golden Boot with 19 goals but has also been the focal point of Uganda’s CHAN campaign.

His equalizer in the thrilling 3–3 draw against South Africa secured the Cranes a quarterfinal showdown with Morocco, leaving him joint-top of the scoring charts with three goals.
For AFC Leopards, who last lifted the Kenyan Premier League title in 1998, finding a consistent striker has been their Achilles heel. Mulindi believes Okello’s profile ticks every box in their rebuilding project.
“Allan Okello is a fantastic player—creative, clinical, and experienced,” Mulindi told Citizen Digital. “He is the type of talent that can push Leopards to where we want to be. But of course, we know many teams are chasing him, including clubs abroad.”
The Ingwe official admitted the competition is fierce, with European sides monitoring Okello’s progress closely. “Our priority is to understand whether the player himself is willing to play in Kenya.
If his mind is set on Europe, then we respect that. Leopards will not negotiate with players who are not genuinely interested,” he added.
Leopards recently ushered in a new leadership team led by Chairman Boniface Ambani, Secretary General Mulindi, and Treasurer Newton Mulindi. The trio has promised to restore the club’s lost glory, and landing Okello would be a statement of intent.
“We want to build steadily and deliver a competitive team for our fans. They should remain patient; we are on the right path,” Mulindi assured.
For Ugandan fans, the speculation underscores just how much Okello’s stock has risen. Whether he chooses a Kenyan adventure or a move to Europe, his future looks brighter than ever.
For Leopards, however, pulling off this signing could finally end a decades-long search for a lethal frontman.
