Lack of interest as half of Africa shuns Women's Olympic qualifiers

Uganda’s Crested Cranes is among the 25 teams that will battle for the two slots allocated to Africa in the 2024 Olympics tournament in Paris, France.

The Confederation of Africa Football confirmed that only 25 nations out of the 48 on the continent registered to take part in the qualifiers.

The 25 will know their qualifying path on Tuesday during the draws that will be conducted in Cairo, Egypt.

The qualifier will have four rounds; the seven best-ranked teams from the last Africa Women’s Cup of Nations will be exempted from the first round.

They include the defending champions South Africa, Morocco, Zambia, Nigeria, Cameroon, Tunisia and Botswana.

Uganda is expected to play against a team from Central Africa, which has Chad, Congo, DR Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Rwanda.
