Lewandowski sets record as Bayern Munich fall to Mainz

49 goals and counting for reigning FIFA Best Lewandowski this season.

Bayern Munich suffered a 1-3 loss away against Mainz in a Bundesliga fixture played on Saturday, April 30, 2022.

However against Mainz they were down two goals from Jonathan Burkardt in the 18th minute and Moussa Niakhate in the 27th minute.

Reigning FIFA Best Player of the Year, Robert Lewandowski pulled one back for Bayern Munich in the 33rd minute as they went to the halftime break a goal down.

In the 57th minute, Barreiro Martins' put Mainz back in front as his strike deflected in off Benjamin Pavard.

Mainz would hold on to claim three points against a Bayern Munich hung over from celebrating their league title.

Lewandowski sets record

It was not all dark and gloomy for Bayern Munich as Lewandowski set a record in the game.

His strike in the first half was his 49th goal of the season as no player has found the back of the net more than the Laureus award winner in Europe's top five leagues.

It was also his 18th away league goal this season which is a new Bundesliga record for a single campaign.
