I can’t say on camera what Ten Hag told us at halftime” – Lisandro Martinez
Manchester United defender Lissandro Martinez has revealed that their manager Erik ten Hag challenged them at halftime during the Europa League tie against Barcelona.
United came from a goal down to beat Barcelona 2-1 in the second leg of their Europa League playoff tie on Thursday night at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils advanced courtesy of a 4-3 aggregate win thanks to two second-half goals from Brazilian stars Fred and Antony.
Ten Hag challenged us
Manchester United were forced to dig deep for their win over the Catalans at home following a slow start in the second leg.
Robert Lewandowski’s penalty gave Barcelona a head start in the second leg as they went into the break with a narrow 0-1 lead.
But the hosts bounced back in style in the second half with two goals, the first from Fred in the first two minutes after the restart before Antony came off the bench to net the winner.
Argentine defender, Martinez, has now revealed their manager, Ten Hag, had a serious word with the team during the break and that motivated the players.
According to the 24-year-old, he can't say what the Dutchman told the players but he challenged them following a shaky start.
“If I tell you what Ten Hag said [during half-time] I can’t say on camera,” Martinez said per ESPN Argentina.
“He challenged us, he challenged us because we didn’t look like as a team (in the first half) and what we’ve been doing, not with energy and of fighting.”
